With Downstage hosting theatre company Hackman’s Apollo 13: Mission Control production again here in Wellington from now ‘til just about Christmas, I thought I’d look back at the images I took at the Festival in March. Great show - they’ve built a replica of Mission Control in the theatre, with working consoles that the audience sit at. People get random phone calls throughout the show asking them to take messages to & from the cast, they have to work out how to keep the crew breathing and the spaceship powered up, all in the interest of getting the astronauts home.

Click here to see the full gallery (if the slideshow above isn’t working for some reason).  I also photographed a schools workshop, where students were given a part of the script to perform - see if anything looks familiar!

I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with The Great Escape

So sorry to hear about Peta Rutter, who I photographed in Indian Ink Theatre’s show The Dentist’s Chair at the Festival in ‘08…

permalink New gallery this morning from T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T. - this is one of those shows I really want to see, not least because I couldn’t read the surtitles while photographing this rehearsal, so I have no idea what was going on!
But it looks fantastic, and the set design has an amazing depth to it that we rarely see in Wellington theatres - we just don’t have a space that would hold a show like this, other than TSB Arena where it’s being performed.
